Melorie Jane
Pianist & Vocalist
Award-winning South African pianist, vocalist and composer Melorie Jane has quickly established herself as one of the country’s most exciting contemporary jazz artists. Her music combines rich harmonic sophistication with infectious groove, drawing inspiration from jazz, Afro-funk and a wide range of modern musical influences.
Melorie has performed on some of South Africa’s most prestigious stages, including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and made her international festival debut at the inaugural Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek in 2026. With two acclaimed albums and several original releases to her name, she continues to captivate audiences through her expressive performances and distinctive sound.

Carla Stokes
Saxophonist & Bandleader
Renowned for her expressive saxophone playing and dynamic stage presence, Carla Stokes is one of Cape Town’s most versatile and accomplished musicians.
A graduate of the University of Cape Town’s Jazz Performance programme, Carla has performed with leading jazz ensembles including the UCT Big Band, Mike Campbell Big Band, Lady Day Big Band, Melorie Jane Quintet, and numerous contemporary projects. Her career has also seen her perform at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the Standard Bank National Arts Festival, and at many of South Africa’s premier venues and luxury events.
Beyond performing, Carla is an accomplished producer, recording artist and founder of Stokes Music, managing a collective of exceptional musicians while continuing to release her own original music that blends jazz with contemporary electronic influences.

Lilavan Gangen
Drummer & Percussionist
Completing the trio is acclaimed drummer and percussionist Lilavan Gangen, one of Cape Town’s most sought-after session musicians.
Having studied Jazz Performance at the South African College of Music, Lilavan’s musicianship extends far beyond jazz, incorporating influences from Western Classical, Latin and Indian percussion traditions. His versatility has seen him perform with respected acts including Nomadic Orchestra, Moonshine – Jazz with a Kick, Carla Stokes Trio, The Unity Band, and numerous collaborative projects across South Africa.
His refined playing, rhythmic sensitivity and musical versatility provide the perfect foundation for an evening of intimate live jazz.
