This year, Avondale’s Créche and After Care Centre entered the annual school’s Collect-A-Can competition, and all the children took up the challenge with great enthusiasm, and results. They won R1000 in prize money for the school when they were placed third in the competition! It was an extraordinary achievement for a small farm school, and teacher, Nadia Retief says, “We will definitely be entering again in the years to come. It has been great because now that the parents have seen what can be achieved they are much more aware and willing to recycle their cans!”
Nadia has bought paint and other materials for the school with some of the prize money, and she is planning to treat our recycling champs to a Poppekas Puppet Show. Well done to them for doing their bit to take care of the Earth!
The children also had great fun exercising their ingenuity in the creation of these wonderful scarecrows out of waste materials which will be used to help protect the Avondale Community Food Garden!
