Introducing La Luna…

It is that time of year when our thoughts are naturally turning to log fires and great bottles of smooth red wine.  On the farm, it reminds us of our commitment to slow winemaking that enables our winemaker to fine tune the ageing and blending of our wines in an exceptional way.  As Cornè Marais says: “I do what the wines want me to do.”  We have no need to regulate or adjust our wines in any artificial way and so, no enzymes, catalysing agents or softeners are used in the production of Avondale wines.  We make use of only natural yeast fermentation and adhere to strict international organic certification standards.  Meticulous processing enables us to make wines that are particularly low in sulphur, less than half the norm.  We practice slow wine-making that gives our wines the time they need to develop to their fullest potential.  This ensures that by the time they reach the wine-lover, they are immediately accessible and delicious, while still bold enough in stamina and character to enjoy a long life in the bottle.

La Luna 2006 – the soft suppleness of La Luna reflects the graceful ways that Avondale is attuned to cosmic influences and rhythms.  In following Biodynamic practices we are mindful of the astronomical influences on soil and plant life.   La Luna is made of organically-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes.  This velvety and elegant classic blend offers scents of cedar, truffles and dark fruit with subtle forest and herb undertones.  Full plum and mulberry flavours and soft tannins combine for a lovely, vibrant suppleness.  At Avondale, the image of the moon is symbolic of the way the universe influences our living system.  By observing the powerful phases of the moon, we fine tune our activities in the vineyard and cellar to be in harmony with the celestial forces.

We invite you to get close and personal with La Luna and the rest of Avondale’s Magnificent Collection.  Our attention to detail and specialist service ensure that our wine tastings are a unique and memorable occasion.  You are most welcome to visit us and enjoy tastings of our hand-crafted, classic wines.  Our Tasting Gallery provides an elegant and comfortable ambiance where you can get to know our extraordinary wines and find out first-hand about how we make them with Mother Nature’s approval.
