Step into a weekend of colour, calm, and connection at Avondale’s Open Gardens 2025 — a celebration of spring, sustainability, and community. Wander through our working wine estate as the gardens burst into bloom, and experience the harmony of nature, people, and good living. Discover seven spectacular gardens across Avondale — each with its own story and style.
You’ll stroll through:
- The vibrant cellar gardens and private home gardens of Ginny Grieve, Suzanne Grieve, Ruth Robertson, and Julie Warren Codrington.
- Two flourishing vegetable gardens that supply our award-winning restaurant.
- Meadow and indigenous gardens, tranquil lawns, streams, and shady oak avenues.
- Our happy free-range farm animals — ducks, hens, and Angus cows that bring life to the land.
Every path reveals a new burst of colour, fragrance, and inspiration.

TIME: 10h00 to 16h00 (each day)
FEE: R70 for adults, Children U/12 enter free, Tickets available at the entrance, (Payment accepted: Snapscan and Credit Card, this will be a cashfree event)
Regrettably, no dogs or picnic baskets allowed.
All entrance fees will be donated to the Avondale Community Organisation (NPO) which provides a creche and a playschool, ensuring a safe and caring environment for our community’s young children.
List of Activities:
- Guided Garden Walks at 10:30 on both days — meet outside the cellar and learn from our gardeners.
- Tea in the Gardens – enjoy freshly baked scones and cakes in the sunshine.
- Ochra Deli Treats – sample our local, artisanal food creations.
- Avondale Wine Bar – taste our organic and biodynamic wines.
- Plant Sales – take a little piece of Avondale home.
- Eco-Safari Tractor Rides – hop on for a scenic ride between gardens.
- Farm Walks – explore at your own pace and feel the land beneath your feet.
